I am very sad to hear of Neil's passing. Some of my fondest memories of my growing up years were experiences with the Cooksey family. While it has been a long time since I have seen Neil, I am not at all surprised at the success and joys he had in his life. My condolences to the family he has left behind.
I was so sad to learn today of Neil's passing. We practiced together at Moore & Van Allen early in our careers, and I so enjoyed knowing him and being fellow U-M law alums. My prayers are with your family as you celebrate his wonderful life.
I was very saddened to hear of Neil's passing. I knew Neil professionally when I worked as in-house counsel for a company that teamed with Akima, LLC. Neil was always very professional and he impressed me as a very sharp attorney. I always enjoyed speaking with Neil and he was always courteous and kind to me. May God comfort your family and give you peace.
my family has been praying for all of you for years now, I wish you God's peace at this time, and always.
Dear Cooksey Family, It was such an unfortunate delight to care for your family and to be an observer of the dynamic that held you all so beautifully together. I will truly treasure getting to know all of you. Your children are incredibly special and they will be remembered by me and all that got to witness there amazing differences. Thank you for sharing.
With love, Kristine Aderman
Farewell Neil. It was an honor to know you and your family.
Dearest Cooksey Family,
My thoughts are with you all,
May you find support and strength within family and friends,
To the Cooksey Family,
I was Abigail's 8th grade LA teacher. Even thought I did not know Neil, I know that he was a fabulous father to have raised a daughter like Abigail. She was a remarkable young lady not unlike what I read about her dad. Incidentally, I was surprised to learn that Neil went to U of M Law School. I am also a proud Wolverine. I am so sorry for your loss.
Dear Cooksey Family,
I knew Neil from the time we were in kindergarten together. Always a good guy with a big smile and a warm demeanor. He had that great gift of being incredibly likable without appearing to really try, but at the same time always striving to be the best person he could be. No wonder he was the "well-loved" class president. I am sorry for your loss but you were obviously very blessed to have shared his life. He's free and safe in his Savior's arms.
With great sympathy,
Tami S. LaPaze

My brother, Kevin, passed away from cancer a year ago. We feel your pain and also rejoice with you that your husband is no longer suffering and is safe in the arms of Jesus!
I will get in contact with you in a few days.

To the Cooksey family,
I am in utter shock. Neil was one of the guys that I really rooted for throughout my time knowing him. He was a fellow Davidson College alum and a wonderful legislator. He was humble and genuine. He was kind and thoughtful. He got it, and because he got it, the people that he served got the most out of his service to the communities he touched.
I remember him doing a lot of political activities with his lovely daughter, of whom he was so very proud. He and I would often talk about our daughters (my daughter is a little younger than his) and how it was to be proud fathers of such bring young ladies.
Neil is a wonderful soul that was a good man for the people. His God-given light will radiate always and I hope that his example can be carried on throughout Mecklenburg County with his peers and friends like me nationally.
God bless you, Cooksey family. Thank you for sharing Neil with us.

Allyson and kids, I send my heart felt thoughts with you all today..As I heard of the news I remembered how each of you coming in as patients at the eye Dr.'s office would make my day! The love and compassion that you have for each other as a family will hold you during these difficult times. Always take time to reflect on the most amazing memories you had together with Neil. May God give you comfort and peace..
The Lord laid it on my heart to email Commissioner Cooksey shortly after reading about his pancreatic cancer in the online Observer. I explained to him that our Minister of Music, Mr. Phil Chaney, at First Baptist Church - Indian Trail was also fighting pancreatic cancer and I just wanted to share with him Phil's CaringBridge comments in hopes that Phil's faith in the Lord would be an encouragement to Mr. Cooksey. Shortly after sending the email, Mr. Cooksey called me and shared his appreciation for the information, that it was comforting to read Phil's words and know that they shared faith in the one True God, who would bring them through the battle, either on this side of heaven or the other. Though I never met him or knew of him prior to his Observer article, I'm thankful God was able to use me to bring a little light to his life. He and my old choir director will live forever cancer free, praising the Lord.
Neil was a decent and good man! He was a loss to all of our county !
Only was able to meet him once but my heart goes out to the family
Rest on the eternal shores my friend...
