I remember the first time we met. I was a teenager. You stopped at our house while driving through Statesville. I answered the door and said, "You must be my grandpa's brother. You look just like him!"
You responded in kind, "You must be my brother's granddaughter. You look just like him!"
I didn't get a chance to know you well, but I remember that you let me interview you for a project in college. I got to learn more about my grandpa because of that conversation. You also came to my college
graduation. That was very important to me. No matter how well we did or didn't know each other, you were always family. I'm sorry I was too busy to visit you more. You were a good man and I know you are no longer in any pain.
Remember we all love you here on earth and we look forward to meeting you in heaven one day. May God send an angel to comfort Mary and the rest of your family.
