My father and Carleton were first cousins. His mother and my dad's mother were sisters.....Fleda Lyon and Mamie Lyon. Carleton gave me my first baseball glove which I still have. Always remembered him for that gift. My condolences on behalf of the Allen side of the family. Paul Allen

Dear Bonnie, We found the obituary late but in reading this and viewing the photographs, we know you and Carlton were both cut from the same cloth. Peace to you and your family. Joan & John Shannon, future residents of Saxapahaw NC

Bonnie, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this time and always. I will forever cherish the memories of working with "Mr. Fleming." It took me a long time to get used to calling him Carlton. I was very young when I started working for him (and Andy Salisbury). I felt honored to be chosen to fill Betty's shoes as his assistant. He thought me many things both directly and indirectly. Your family was like a second family to me. I wish you and your family strength, faith and peace.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Dear Bonnie,

It is with deepest regrets that we learned of the passing of Carlton Fleming. We know what a irreparable loss you and your family have suffered, and no words can soften your sorrow. His outstanding elegant style, coupled with wit, great knowledge, and warmth will leave a lasting impression on all of us, who had the priviledge of meeting and working with Carlton. We treasure the memories of our past friendship.
Our thoughts are with you and your family.

I will be forever grateful for the opportunity given to me by Mr. Fleming to open Womble Carlyle's Charlotte office with him in 1984. We worked with so many wonderful people over the 11 years I was there. Bonnie, I remember working with you and Hass Parker at the reception to announce the opening -- was it at Discovery Place? And I also remember the many gifts you and Carlton brought me from your trips to Europe, especially the Godiva chocolates. He was always the epitomy of professionalism, yet he was kind enough to introduce me to his children and gracious enough to enjoy meeting mine. I learned so much about being a legal secretary from Carlton, but I was never able to get him to look at all his interoffice mail. He introduced me to many interesting people -- Johnny Jones, Hans Klaussner, Lonnie Burris, Duke Kimbrell to name a few. I had forgotten all of his accomplishments until I read his memorial online. My prayers will continue for you, the children and grandchildren that God will provide comfort, strength and peace for the days and weeks ahead. So thankful for your many wonderful memories.

Carlton and Scotty Cramer hired me as exec vp of Central Charlotte in 1969. Carlton was always gracious and helpful as its president. He worked hard for a better future of the central city and the whole city. Marion A. Ellis
