Janet Bridger Chernega CHARLOTTE - After days of planning her arrival with God, Janet was welcomed with open arms by Him on October 24, 2013. She was born in Bladenboro NC on September 22, 1956. Her parents Levie Clayton Bridger and Marie White Bridger preceded her in death as well as her Labradors, Cozell, Amos and Andy. Janet is survived by her husband, best friend and lover of 32 years, Gary and the sunshine of our lives, son Michael Paul, sister, Mollie Bridger Vandiver; many nieces and nephews and her constant English Lab companions Beau and Stick. Janet was a graduate of Bladenboro High School, St. Mary's in Raleigh, UNC Chapel Hill and the Pfeiffer MBA Program. She was presented at the Terpsichorean Club of NC Debutante Ball in 1975. Janet was employed by Fayetteville Technical College and Central Piedmont Community College where she held various Senior Executive Positions before retiring in 2010. She was a committed and competent professional, educator and leader. Janet was proud of her family's membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Flagon and Trencher: Descendants of Colonial Tavern Keepers. Janet loved beer and fine wine. Janet loved beach music, a good book, kayaking, collecting wildlife art and sporting clays. Janet, Gary and eventually Michael Paul looked forward to family quail hunts during the holidays. She of course, had the largest pouch, as she was a very good shot. Janet was a huge Providence Day Charger Fan as she watched Michael Paul play Lacrosse and Football. Those Charger games brought us into the Providence Day Family where we made many new friends and developed many cherished memories. Janet's favorite place in the world was the family's house at Wrightsville Beach. Many summers, weeks and weekends were spent there. It was and is a magical place for us all. The family would like to thank Brighton Gardens and Hospice for their loving and attentive care in the final stages of Janet's life. A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. There will be a reception following the service in the fellowship hall. Our family has experienced the ravages of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and in lieu of flowers requests donations be made in Janet's name to The Ivey, 6030 Park South Dr., Charlotte, NC 28210, a Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Day Care Center, that served our family with love, devotion and expert care. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC. Please share condolences online at www.hankinsandwhittington.com

I knew Janet was very smart and had held many very grown up positions. But the Janet I remember was a skinny tomboy. She spent most of her time outside shooting basketball. I think she wore a dress on Sunday but only because Marie made her. She was a precious child and I loved her and all her family. I pray for peace for all of you.
