To Pepper:
I would love to talk with you sometime soon. Your mother taught me how to be a good citizen. She took me (and many others) under her wing and showed me how to make a difference. I never measured up to her but because of her, I became more than I would have been without her.

bye...bye...

I admired Liz more than anyone I've ever known. She had it all--integrity, a no-nonsense focus on what needs to be done and the courage to do it, great strategic sense, generosity, empathy, kindness and consideration.
In an era when "politician" has become a dirty word, Liz was the kind of politician-leader we wish they ALL were.
A wonderful person--I adored her, but who didn't? Her spirit, and her accomplishments, will be with us always.

Charlotte and North Carolina have lost a splendid citizen. I look back on the old days with great fondness.

I remember Liz on a more person level. My grandfather, W.T. Harris, was chair of the Mecklenburg County Commission when Liz was first elected. Grandpa liked her and their mutual vision for education and our children.
I got to spend time with Liz as a young teen. There was a national County Commission Meeting in Dallas TX and Grandpa and Liz went. Grandpa took me along and it was so miserably hot. While at the Cotton Bowl waiting for a big BBQ and rodeo, the heat was suffocating. There was a huge fountain out in front of the Cotton Bowl. Liz and looked at each other and climbed in! The water was heaven and we laughed and laughed about being the fountain together. She became Head of the Commissioners once Grandpa retired and she was a trailblazer. However, my favorite memory will be of her playing in the fountain with me, a 13 year old, and having a great time. Every time I heard her name it has been my first memory of her.

Sending deepest sympathy to daughter Elizabeth and the rest of the Hair family. I was privileged to know her as your mom growing up in Charlotte. Even as a child, I knew there was something very strong and powerful about her that was so very different from the other moms and women I knew, and I have carried that image with me ever since.

Liz Hair demonstrated excellence, leadership and integrity. She served as role model for many successful women.

As a longtime Charlottean who emigrated here from points North, I was always intrigued by the name of one Ms. Liz Hair that graced many of the buildings, park benches and greenways that made my new-found city so enjoyable to live in. As a Democrat who has involved myself with the process of Democracy locally, nationally and internationally, I have since learned that a lot of the legacy that I have enjoyed was created and started by Ms. Hair herself. It is an honor to say that I had the great privilege to meet Ms. Hair before she died. It was with greater privilege that I feel blessed enough with the opportunity to carry on with her legacy through community service, both public and private. Thank you Ms. Hair and may your journey throughout the hereafter be filled with blessings and good directions.
