James Justice Obituary

The body of a local soldier killed in Afghanistan came home to Cherryville Monday morning.

Army specialist James Justice will be laid to rest Monday.

The 21-year-old was shot in the head in Afghanistan and passed away at a hospital in Germany on August 16.

Justice's body arrived around 9 a.m. at the Shelby airport. He will then be taken to the Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain during a procession on NC 150 in Gaston County.

This was Justice's first tour in Afghanistan after joining the Army at age 18. He attended Cherryville High School and received a degree from Gaston College before deploying overseas last month where he was initially stationed in Italy.

Justice leaves behind a wife and three stepchildren.

Hello, my name is James Burleson and I am a senior at Winfield City High School. As a class assignment we were asked to find a fallen veteran with your name. After reading about this young man's sacrifice I was honored to share the same name as this young hero's. The sacrifice SPC. Justice gave does not go unnoticed. May God bless him and watch over his family.

Dear Family, my heart goes out to you. I was walking Lula and in the tennis court I found one of your cards. I grew up near Vicenza and my mother retired in Aviano AFB. I know the the base well. I am so so very sorry for your loss. I too lost my husband in X-mas of 2011. Hugs and kisses are the best to help ease the loss. And knowing that he will live forever in your hearts and in those beautiful little girls.
Peace and good will to your family.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

I am so sorry to read this news and want his family to know that James will certainly be missed. I will never forget how wonderful it was to be around James when we were growing up. From preaching and playing music together, to picking peppers, to swimming in the creek: nothing but good memories ... He was a true friend and I will always remember his tenacity and enthusiasm about Jesus. I pray that his family finds sweet comfort and hope in our God.

O for a day to walk again slow through a forest deep O for the time to talk again before I go to sleep O for the warmth of summer sun the chill of winters eve and O for the chance to sing my song once more before I go O for the scent of autumn air brisk clean and cold O for the chance to travel where the seas are blue and bold O for the prayer I never prayed O for the kiss I never kissed and O for the chance to sing my song once more while yet I missed cry of bird and wail of wind word unspoken sin un-sinned a night to dance a hill to climb the chance to sing while there is time O for the taste of meat and ale to linger on my tongue O for the sight of hill and dale and faces that are young O for the hand of one I love the time to bloom and grow and O for the chance to sing my song once more before I go.

May the peace of God be with all of you now and forever.

Thank You for your service & sacrifice James Justice. My heart goes out to all of his family and friends. I saw a young soldier buried in Sarasota, FL in 2007. Killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. His mom and I were pregnant together and I watched this young man grow up and become a brave soldier. The funeral is something I will remember all my life. He also had the Patriot Guards there, what an awesome sight and so touching. God Bless the many men and women who sacrifice their lives for us. Bless the families that continue to grieve in their absence. Rest In Peace James Justice. God bless his soul.
