I had the pleasure of working with Stuart--and having him work with my copy--for many years at the Observer. He was truly an intelligent, dedicated and thoughtful editor. I've been in touch with him off and on for the past several years and he seemed to be much the same. Even while battling disease he remained upbeat and optimistic. I also remember Stuart as a man who dearly loved his wife, which undoubtedly explains the impressive duration of his marriage. I'll miss Stuart. So will journalism. He was a rare gem.
