Dear Maggie, Betsy and Will - our family has a long history of helping others, due to the strong Christian ethic that was a part of our heritaage and upbringing. Your family contributed so much to the Charlotte area and I am proud to call you kin. Heartfelt sympathy to you all.

Maggie,
I am out of town and just learned of Tom's death. I have such fond memories of serving as his side kick as he spent time working for the rights for children who were abused and neglected. Through his tireless efforts, so many children ended up with a better life. I always admired his tenacity both before his stroke and afterward. He really does leave a legacy as an advocate for those who could not speak for himself.

I am so sorry I will not be there in person for his service tomorrow but I will be there in spirit.

Blessings to you and your family as you cope with your loss.

Dear Maggie and children,
I can't believe Tom is gone. The last time I saw him he called me and said "Take me to lunch" - and we went to one of the restaurants on East Boulevard where, Tom said, they know I'll ask them the same thing over and over. But his long-term memories remained, and we talked about his working with Jimmy Shannonhouse and the work on the committee to integrate the schools. I filled him in on my childrens' lives - since he was their Godfather - and he told me about Betsy and Wil. I could go for five or ten years, and we could pick up on the last conversation we had. The world is a sadder place today with Tom gone. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Fondly,
Pat Newman Swanzey LeNeave
