Burhan-Dogancay-Obituary

Burhan Dogancay

Obituary

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - Turkish painter Burhan Dogancay, whose work has been exhibited in some 70 museums worldwide, including New York's Metropolitan Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, has died. He was 83.

Bergin Azer, director of the Dogancay Museum, said the artist died Tuesday of an undisclosed illness in Istanbul.

Much of Dogancay's art was inspired by graffiti, torn posters and banners found on city walls. His museum in Istanbul, which opened in 2004, was the first contemporary art museum in Turkey.

Dogancay's paintings are part of the permanent collections at the Metropolitan Art Museum and the Guggenheim. One of his paintings sold for $1.7 million at an Istanbul auction in 2009 - the highest price paid for a contemporary art painting in Turkey.

Dogancay is survived by his wife.

Not sure what to say?

Burhan was on my mind constantly yesterday. I did some research and am so sad to find that he passed a year ago and touched that he was nudging at my thoughts throughout my day.

My deepest condolences on his passing. I still have the signed prints and cards that he and his wife gave me in 1986-87, when I worked at Foyen & Peri. I will display them with great fondness.

I hope his wife and family can sense the warmth and caring thoughts I have for my memories of them...

May the god of comfort be a source of strength for your family at this difficult time. 2Corn 1:3, 4. Deepest Sympathy, Sue, Concord, NC

May the God of all comfort be with you the family 2nd Cor 1:3&4...at your time of lost.

Burhan seemed to be a very artistic man. My brother and I are artists ourselves. Notice what John 5:25 says, “ ... The hour is coming... when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live.” Soon Mr. Burhan can paint to his heart's desire.

May the God of comfort and love be with the Dogancay family in your time of sorrow.We look to the time when know one will say I am sick but until that day remember that others care.Isaiah33:24.

God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily to be found in times of distress.

SO SORRY FOR YOUR GRIEF,MAY YOU LOOK TO GOD ABOVE FOR COMFORT.{GOD IS LOVE}

much.
