Dear LuAnn & Family, my deepest sympathies go out to you at this time. I always loved hearing stories of your Mom and how fearless she was, yet so kind and gentle. I wish I could have met her. She has left a wonderful legacy in all of you. May she rest in peace.

Roxane I was sorry to hear about your Mother's passing and also sorry to hear to late to pay my respects at the services. I enjoyed your stories about this remarkable woman and her wisdom and strength. She leaves a wonderful legacy.

Growing up I always took it for granted that Busia was a center of calm selflessness. It wasn't until I was much older that I began to appreciate the things she saw and lived through - without ever issuing any complaint. She always appreciated what she had and never wasted time worrying about things she couldn't change. Busia was one of the most independent people I've ever known - yet she accepted help from others with both gratitude and grace.

Throughout my whole life I never saw Busia say a negative word about another human soul. In fact, she was always ready to offer compassion to anyone in need. I remember the friendships she cultivated in her old neighborhood with the teenagers who lived nearby. Where I saw dangerous gang members, Busia saw young people who could use a snack and maybe a bit of helpful advice. And just by being so unconditionally welcoming it made everyone around her want to be worthy of her care and attention.

Busia made the world a better place. She cared for her family and neighbors. She taught me the importance of treating others well and I'm sure she set an example for many others as well. She will be missed but I hope we can all carry her example with us forever.
