We learned of George's death just recently, actually via a forwarded obituary.
I was present when the paramedics took him to the hospital; they said it was a "light fall"; of course, they're not doctors. I DID call his family (Steve & Kim Spade) who were unaware of his fall.
George was a friend and neighbor for some twenty years. It's difficult to believe he is gone. I wish I had been able to talk with him on the ambulance as I had done in the past, but I wasn't allowed in the vehicle.
I did talk with his daughter Kristen; things didn't seem well at that time.
We had many good times, drinks and meals together. I will miss George.
I give my condolences to his family.

Dear Kim and Kristin,
So sorry on the loss of your father. I only met him a few times; but, he certainly was a stand-up guy. May you and your families enjoy all the good memories you have.

I am so deeply saddened by the news of George's passing. At times life presents us with gifts of serendipity. Meeting George was one of those gifts. I grew up and lived in Chicago's 13th District prior to my move to Galena. George and I didn't meet and become friends until we met in Galena. I loved sharing stories of the "old neighborhood" with him. I am honored that George was my friend. His love and devotion to his family was immeasurable. I will truly miss him.

I worked as a Robbery detective in Area 4 and use to see George whenever we had a case in 013. I retired in 1994 and moved to Galena. Several years later I ran into George here in Galena. He was a great guy. I miss running into him at the WalMart out here.
Very sorry to hear about George's passing. My condolences to his family.

George was a excellent police officer, I worked with him from 1975 thru 1979 in the Wood St. District of Chicago, he was a true professional in every thing he did. George was really one of the good guys. He was fair to all that worked for him. I learned a lot from him that served me well during the rest of my time with the CPD.
