Mi Vida Loca Por Vida

My family and I were introduced to Johnny after Johnny and his family moved to Farmington. I really enjoyed becoming good friends with Johnny, Teresa, the grandmas, and the kids. Johnny and Teresa treated us just like family. My wife made Johnny a birthday cake for his 40th birthday. Johnny and I had lots of great times together. We prayed together, laughed together and shed a few tears together, and enjoyed the countless hours that he would spend with me showing me the scrapbooks of his incredible boxing career. The biggest joy I had was training with Johnny. I needed to drop a few pounds and asked him if he would train me and get me into boxing shape. It was so much fun having Johnny teach me how to hit the bags, jump rope, hitting the mitts, and teaching me the strategy that made him a world champion five times over. Its not every day that you get trained by a five time world champion. When Johnny and his family moved back to Albuquerque he changed his phone number and I lost contact with him. My family and I were so sad to hear that Johnny passed on. Johnny loved the Lord in a big, big way. I know one thing for sure Johnny is heaven chewing on a straw wearing another championship belt that his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave him when he got there. We continue to keep Teresa and the family our prayers.
Miss you Champ.
Your friend
Big Mike aka The Big Daddy from Cincinnati
You were so sweet Johnny, I can't believe you are gone :( You are in a better place. I will never forget when we were younger and you were teaching me how to punch, you told me to punch you in the face and I didn't want to but you kept insisting, so I did and your mouth bled, I got scared and started apologizing and you just laughed and said now that's a punch. You may be gone but never will you be forgotten.. R.I.P JOHNNY..
I didn't know you Johnny, but your mom and my husband (Tony Wright)were first cousins. My husband always talked about your mom and you and I truly regret that I never got to meet you. Our son (David Wright)ran into you a while back at Big Boys Toys and you and he had a wonderful time talking about being Primos. He will never forget that. I pray that you are at peace now and you are finally happy. Such a tragic life you had. Watch over all of us from Heaven and I will finally meet you when we meet in Heaven. God bless your wife and children.

Mi Vida Loca
In Loving Memory Of Johnny Tapia
Everybody Stumbles, And Everybody Falls,
Some Of Us Have Nothing, While Others Have It All
Some Live In The Shadows, While Some Live In The Light
What Matters In This Crazy Life, Is How You Fought The Fight
Johnny Lived His “Vida Loca” Best Way He Knew How
Giving Every Ounce He Had, Before He'd Take A Bow
Finding Good In Everyone, Though Sometimes Hard To Find
It's The Legacy He Yearned For, It's What He Leaves Behind
His Battered Face Could Not Conceal, The Pain He Held Inside
He Tried To Smile As If To Say, Not Me, I Never Cried
Hands Of Steel That Thundered, With Power At Every Blow
For His Beloved “Burque”, The City He Loved So
Pride Ran Through His Every Vein, More Prominent Than Blood
Righteous, Strong, And Valiant, Like A Wild Stallion Stud
Life Could Not Contain Him, For He Was Like No Other
A Husband And A Father, To Everyone A Brother
Cast The First Stone, If You Must, Though First Be Without Sin
But Jesus Who So Loved Him Said, “Mi Hito, Come On In”
And If You Must Pass Judgment, First Walk In His Shoes
Then Let Him Rest, Everyone Knows, That He Has Paid His Dues
A Peace Life Could Not Give To Him, Became His Very Own
Beyond Life's Earthly Burdens, With His Mama, At God's Throne
In A Place Where There's No Title, No Belt, No Final Round
Where His Spirit Found Eternal Peace, He Lies On Sacred Ground

Johnny, we met at the age of 13 at Albuquerque High School, later in the years when we met up again, you were as genuine as I remembered, you always stayed true. I grew up with you and Jakie Valencia and understood you...and never once questioned nor judged you because of what went on in your life...only "YOU" knew the pain of what you were going through. I know that you are in a better place, with your mother and at peace. I will always pray for you and your family. You will be greatly missed as you are and always will be a legend to many.

Theresa and family, I will never forget Johnny and his love to my sons being my next door neighbor, (8908 Goldstone Ave) Johnny was always the light of our family. He was so warm and loved my sons, he made a very good impression on them. Josiah was just telling me he wanted to talk to Johnny, we were looking for him on FB and the like just early this month, but anyways, we love you, from Pastor Ron, Jamia, Renard, Aaron, Jimmel, Josiah and Ronnie. Love you! Take your sleep Johnny.
I remember the last time I saw Johnny, was at church. He was wearing a red shirt and had on glasses..I kept looking and when alter call was called Johnny came up to the front and the pastor prayed over him....I have comfort that Johnny Tapia is in heaven. Its by Gods grace that we are saved. Its his free gift to us. Ill never forget that day..God Bless the Tapias..
I first met Johnny during his forced sabbatical. I worked at a group home we had a boxing bag he asked to come over and punch it with the kids he was so down to earth

Sending condolences and prayers for your family. Soon after his first world title i ran into Johnny at a crowded resturant in Abq. Reached out to shake his hand but stumbled for his name. He couldnt have been more kind and friendly. Where someone could have easily been arrogant or rude he was beyond accommodating, shook my hand and humbly..quietly said Johnny. Stayed with me and always will. A true champion and class act. Wishing you peace on your journey brother.

I watched Johny fight many times and the article on line is 100 percent right. The more he had struggles outside the ring, the more i liked him. The guy overcame so many odds at different points of his life and still manages to be a great fighter! Thats talent and now God has one of his greatest creations back with him. RIP
May your friends and family bring you comfort and help you through this difficult time, and may the hope to see your loved one again bring you peace.
