Ballantine, Jane Boand 1925 2012; age 87, of Hinsdale, IL and Spring Lake, MI passed away on October 10, 2012 while convalescing at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake, MI. She was born on September 18, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Jules F. and Ella V. (Novak) Boand. As a member of The Greatest Generation, Jane dedicated her life to family, friends, and helping others in service to her community. Prior to starting her family and following her graduation from Purdue University as a Math major, Jane worked for a decade with the some of the nation's first computers at the University of Chicago. She volunteered at the Helping Hand Rehabilitation Center in Countryside for over 30 years and delivered meals to seniors and shut-ins. Jane had a mission for helping others less fortunate. She was an active, long-time member of The Union Church of Hinsdale, IL and was proactive in church out-reach. Jane enjoyed the outdoors, sports, gardening and spending summers with her family in Spring Lake, MI. On January 2, 1954, she married Fredrick W. Ballantine, Sr., in Chicago, IL and he survives her, along with 3 children, Fredrick W. "Fritz" Ballantine, Jr., of Spring Lake, MI, Joella "Joby" (Jim) Nordloh of Hinsdale, and Bro (Nancy) Ballantine of Hinsdale; 5 grandchildren, Tillie, Christie, and Natalie Nordloh, Daniel and Rachel Ballantine. She is also survived by 1 sister, Joan (Felix) Boand Pytlinske. Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Jules F. "Sonny" Boand, Jr. A memorial service will be held November 16th at 2 pm in the Chapel at Union Church of Hinsdale. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions in memory of Jane may be given to Women's Association of Union Church (Hunger Fund) in Hinsdale, IL or Spring Lake Presbyterian Church (Food Pantry Fund) in Spring Lake, MI.
