Dr. Cherny became my mother's physician during the last years of her life. From the moment he entered her hospital room, when he handed me his cellphone number, I could sense his expertise, humanity and deep humility.
In her nineties, my mother appreciated his patience and understanding since up until this time, she had been very healthy. His wisdom and kindness was evident in his actions.
After her hospitalization when heavy snow had hit Chicagoland, Dr. Cherny actually made house calls to safeguard Mom in this weather. Yes - in this day and age! And as she recovered, he would ask her to play one of his favorite piano selections.
His care and friendship was a tremendous gift to our family. When the time came for Mom to leave this world, Dr. Cherny's gentle being was a great comfort.
It is inconceivable that he too has passed. But his memory is eternal in our hearts.
God rest his soul.
My deepest condolences to his loved ones.
