So sorry to see this. I stumbled on to this in a search for Don to tell him he is still inspiring me today. I am a 64 graduate and have often revisited the memories of Spring Concert and those magnificent climaxes that gave many of us goosebumps and thrills to be a part of it. At 67 I am getting back into music by creating my own home studio to create my own little grand production. Heres to you Mr. C and I'm sorry I didn't catch you soon enough to tell you in person. I recently saw Mr. Holland's Opus and you know who I was reminded of. Mr. C had dozens of them. Thanks for the inspiration!

Bettie, May I offer my condolences to you and to your family. Don was without a doubt the moving force of my high school years and influenced me in my choice of a 34 year career teaching music in public schools in British Columbia. I am still teaching piano students and as I do I fondly remember the years that Don was my piano teacher. May you be comforted by the thought that he helped so very many students. I will never forget him.

Mr C --> my hero! Truly he was THE definition of a great and gifted man. I can honestly say that as my high school music teacher, he influenced my life as no one else in my life ever has. He gave me my love of music and oh so much more. He taught me the importance of good character, the value of always doing one's best, of never giving up, and of sticking with it to the end. He had a significant impact in forming who I am today. Even after high school, it was always just amazing to me how I continued to learn from him; every time we would run into each other in town, I always came away so much the richer for it. What a privilege to have known him, what a privilege to have had him grace my life. He truly was a special, special man.
To the family: what a privilege to have been able to share your lives with him! You have been so blessed. Please know my prayers are with you during this difficult time. Even amongst the tears of your loss and heartache, I would encourage you to rejoice for him because for him there are no more struggles, no more pain, no more suffering. He now sits whole and healed at the feet of our Lord Jesus and, no doubt, he gets to make beautiful music in heaven! What could be better than that? Be encouraged, you will see him again and share in that joy.

Respectfully, Cheri (Cavett) Vincent, class of 1971

In my 40 years in education, Don Coutolenc stands out as one of those people they make movies about! He was intense and passionate about learning. He helped children know they had the power to improve their thinking, knowledge, and personal paths. He was a brilliant musician and theater artist, and had the intellectual tenacity to guide many people in the school district to see the structure of technology in daily operations. We worked together at the high school to computerize attendance and course data. It was an amazing experience to transform those processes. I am so fortunate to have been his colleague and friend.
