I first met Elaine in Kasama, Zambia, where she and Doug were missionaries, which included Doug preaching and Elaine playing the piano at the Services in the little Church there. I had just arrived and as was her custom, I was warmly welcomed by her. It wasn't long before I was part of the many friends who were invited to their home, and it was there that I had my first taste of a Nanaimo Bar! (Al and I now live in Nanaimo!)
A year or so later, a young Canadian arrived to teach at the Teacher Training College in Kasama; it wasn't long before he was invited to The Fraser's home. Elaine shortly thereafter let us know separately that she felt he and I would 'suit each other!' Sure enough, about a year later, Doug was marrying us in Lusaka. And as we drove away after the wedding celebration, we began to smell an aroma of very strong cheese, melting on the engine. It did not take us long to conclude that Elaine (probably with Doug's assistance) was 'The Culprit!'
I have such great memories of Elaine. She was a wonderful friend and counselor, and I look forward to seeing her in heaven.

Elaine was such a gift to those who knew her! I met Elaine many years ago when I first came to Cambrian Presbytery and was privileged to work along side her at various church events and camp. Such a bright and uplifting woman with a deep and abiding faith, Elaine was an inspiration and support to many people, including me. My prayers are with all of her family. May the comfort of memories, the grace of faith, and the blessings of love hold you tenderly, now and always.

In 1990 we were blessed with twin boys born just weeks before Christmas. Elaine baptized those boys in her most joyful and loving manner. I will never forget her showing them to the congregation with that big smile on her face and such love in her heart. A most meaningful "Silent Night" was sung afterward.
