Too many times we hear about the horrible things some men will do to children and then there is a story like this about a real MAN. A man who did what we adults are suppose to do & that is to PROTECT the children ,not harm them . His family & community should be so proud of him. My sympathy to all who loved him ,I'm sure there were many.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Living in Livermore, Ca I remember getting picked up at summer school in Livermore and on the radio they were talking about this bus load of kids missing 9little did we know they would be found in my backyard pretty much. wow what a weird feeling later on that the kids were found about a mile from my house-I shall never forget that eveing with helicopters and planes flying so low above my house. To this day, I drive by the "burial place" on Isabel and still get the goosebumps as I go by. Ray may you rest in peace-you are so muched loved by so many.

Mr. Ray is everything we all aspire to be. A true hero whose mission in life is to make the world a better place. I remember the time Mr. Ray was on the game show Tic Tac Toe. The host Peter Marshall mentioned Mr. Ray was the bus driver and the place erupted in applause. All the celebrities stood and paid him homage. He said he was more nervous then - before all those famous people. Acts of courage may lie not so much in a heroic act, as in a reflective tendency to protect life that is in danger. Well done.
May 19, 2012
Ray is a true soldier of God and has joined the Saints in Heaven. As Jesus loved the children, so did Ray. What a humble and loved man. May you find the peace you need during this difficult time. I will pray for you.

What a wonderful, kindhearted man. I'm so glad that he lived a long life and was blessed with a loving wife and family of his own. This story made me cry - tears of sorrow for his family's loss and tears of joy for what he did for those kids. It's so good to know that many of the rescued kids visited him all these years and showed their gratitude and love. May Frank be resting in peace right now. I hope to meet him in Heaven and give him a big hug some day!

May 19, 2012
Real men do the things that have to be done and are usually very modest about their experiences. Thank you Frank, and the two students, for giving hope and a valuable life lesson to all of the kids that day. American is so lucky to have so many men that will step up whenever it is needed. All of the comments show that you were a gentleman and a 'stand up' guy. May you rest in peace.

I was expecting my first child when this happened. Being from San Francisco, I knew of the area of Chowchilla and was appalled! I immediately hugged my tummy and prayed that this would turn out good for all the victims, and imagined myself in that situation. I'm so glad the children had a beautiful, loving adult with them, who not only didn't let them down, but saved their very lives. My sympathy to his family and close friends. He truly did God's command. He risked his own life and saved all the lives on that bus. God bless his memory.

I remember this incident very well because it was so unusual. I also remember that the buried moving van was from a company in Palo Alto. Without Mr. Ray's courage and leadership who knows what would have happened to these children. For those unfamiliar with this story here's the link from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chowchilla_kidnapping#1976_bus_kidnapping RIP Mr. Ray....
