My Dear CousinsYour Dad's "Final Flight" was amazing! What a beautiful and fitting tribute to one of the finest members of the Greatest Generation. The Heavens have to be booming with love and laughter at the reuniting of your Mom and Dad and Dan and John and all our loved ones who have gone before us. Your family is such a shining example of what it means to be FAMILY. Ups and downs- yes but the strength and bonds of love have held you all together.
The example of your love and care of your Dad (and Mom) has been a gift for all to witness. JOB WELL DONE Cousins! You did a marvelous job- you worked together and you made it work! That's what is important. May you find confort in knowing how much your Dad appreciated your kindness. And know that our parents reside always in our hearts- and it's ever more apparent as we continue to live in our "childhood" homes! What a trip!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful parents with us- we absolutely loved Aunt Sue and Uncle Tom- you were our "second home" and I always felt secure and loved when I was over there (which was lot!!)
I can't help but laugh when I think of our moms going to the country auctions only to realize that they were inadvertently and unknowingly bidding against each other (and the auctioneers both knew them by name)!
And then the phone call to Uncle Tom and Uncle John to come and pick up all of their "treasures"- one time including a church bench. That ride home from the auction was a little too much for the trailer hitch to handle but no worries! Duct tape was the answer and Aunt Sue had her up and running in no time and the darn thing made it all the way home from the middle of nowhere! I can still hear your Dad laughing at all the "junk" our moms would come up with!
But your Dad made my Mom's days- especially Thursday's "Meals on Wheels"! After Dad passed away and then Jimmy- your Dad's visits with my Mom were "priceless". They would sit and talk for hours- and the stories were hilarious. Those were the days- those are the memories we cherish. Your Dad and my Mom understood each other- they "got" it.
I'm so thankful for the gift your Dad's life in our life- his example of strength and kindness and as Jimmy so well stated- CHARACTER.
Take care of yourselves and each other and keep the peace. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers and remember we are only a heartbeat away.
