Although I never met Van Cliburn I did have the priviledge of hearing him perform twice and will always treasure that. He was an amazing musician and will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and may their memories bring them comfort.

Having been born in 1952 I can say that the name Van Cliburn has always been known to me. I began my piano studies at the age of 9 and Van Cliburn has always been an inspiration to me. During my piano studies in college my professor had a huge poster of Van Cliburn at the piano and his technique was always the example of correct technique. He will be greatly missed and will always hold a special place in my memory bank as well as to others that love classical music. May he rest in peace in the hands of God.

We have wonderful memories of the beginning of the Cliburn in Fort Worth and look where it is today! We will miss his enthusiasm and wonderful smile.

Who would ever have thought that our grandparents, (Ella Gertrude Strickland Cliburn and John Marshall Cliburn) would have 34 grandchildren! You were a real winner, my dear Van, and I am so glad you were a member of our family. I will always miss you, Aunt Rilda Bee and Uncle LaVan. Loved you and was so proud of your accomplishments.

Grateful for the Maestro's role as a cultural bridge, for demonstrating that what we hold in common is greater than any of our differences.
