Joe Francis

Josiah Wilson "Joe" Francis, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert Cleveland "Bob" and Inez Ratcliffe Francis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Francis, a brother, Edward Eugene "Gene" Francis and a nephew, Richard Francis. He was a United States WWII Navy Veteran having served on the USS Flagship. Joe was a 1942 graduate of Waynesville Township High School, and attended Mars Hill and North Carolina State University. He made his career teaching Vocational Agriculture at West Henderson High school in Henderson County, NC. Joe was an active and dedicated member of Calvary Road Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Evelyn Plemmons Francis; a nephew, Dr. Gary Francis and his wife, Barbara, of Richmond, Virginia and several great-nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John Swanger, III, Reverend J.D. Grant and Reverend Wayne Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Gideon International, P.O. Box 634, Waynesville,NC 28786.

So sorry to hear about Mr Francis's passing. I was a student at West Henderson and also a neighbor when they lived in Mountain Home NC. He will be greatly missed by many. My prayers are with you at this time. Sherry Burleson Clark

Mrs. Francis our hearts are heavy to hear of Mr. Francis' passing.. He was my AG/Shop teacher for 4 yrs. (62-66) at West High..He was by far one of my most favorite people and teacher from which I and so many others learned so much from him in those 4 yrs. Our prayers go out for you and your family asking God to give you peace and comfort during this difficult time. May God rest his soul and give him eternal peace in the name of God the Father we pray..May God Bless you always Mrs. Francis !!

So sorry to hear of his passing. One of everyone's favorite and most fondly remembered teachers and Fletcher when it was still a high school and West Henderson, where I was one of his students.

Mrs.Francis..My name is Charles Lewis.I pastor a Baptist Church in Morganton ,N.C...Mr.Francis taught me in agriculture at Fletcher High School around 1956-58.Mr.Francis was a great Teacher..I have thought of him often over the years.He was also a greatt man...May God Bless you...
