Leonard L. Hummel, 86, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Timber Ridge Health Care Center, Plains Township.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 22, 1927. He was the son of the late Frank F. and Charlotte Speary Hummel.
He attended E. L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Leonard was employed by Foster Wheeler Corp., Mountain Top, for more than 30 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a member of its Rainbow Seniors Club.
He enjoyed gardening and he loved to travel with his family and his friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Hummel, and brothers, Stewart and Benjamin Hummel.
Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, the former Angela Ferro Hummel; daughter, Lynn Kelley and her husband, Dave; son, Frank Hummel and his wife, Kathryn; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Gittens and Madeline (Phoebe) Eustice; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.
A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. in Albright United Methodist Church, 116 Dana St., Wilkes-Barre, with Eugene Sperazza, CLM, officiating.
Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of the Sacred Heart or to Celtic HealthCare.
