Aunt Marie, words cannot express how much I love and miss you. You taught me what it means to be a hero and were the one that inspired me to be a writer. I will carry your memory with me wherever I go and honor it by following in your foot steps. There is so much I want to say, but I can't find the words. A world without you seems so unimaginable and dark. But I'm sure you must be up there in Heaven, watching down on us and casting rays of light over us to remind us that you are still with us. I will never forget your smile or your laugh or your kindness. It is so hard without you, but I know that if you had to go, this was the way you wanted it to be. You gave your life in the pursuit of the truth and for the sakes of the innocent lives in Syria that needed you to tell their story. I know that I will always miss you, but I could not be more proud to be your niece. I hope Heaven has an open bar with the best vodka and a beautiful beach like the ones in Oyster Bay where you can swim and enjoy the sun for the rest of eternity. May the good Lord hold you in the palm of his hand, until we meet again.

All my love,
Your niece Jenny <3
