Loren B. Buckles, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at McCrite Plaza. Loren was born on May 10, 1920 in Olathe, Kansas to Johnson T. and Bertha Buckles. Loren married Wanda Klingler on January 19, 1951 in Overland Park, KS; he passed away only two days before their 62nd wedding anniversary. Loren was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy during the Asiatic Pacific theatre. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and he retired from Santa Fe railroad after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Wanda J. Buckles of Topeka; son, Larry (Cheryl) Buckles of Topeka; grandson, Justin (Jessica) Buckles of Hays; and granddaughter, Rachel Buckles of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Arthur and Leroy Buckles. Memorial services will be on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 10th and Lane. Inurnment will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Larry, I'm very sorry and sad to hear about your father. I remember all the fun we had at your house when we were in grade school. Halloween parties and my first Big Mac. I hope you all are getting along as best you can. I'll remember you in my prayers.

Wanda & family - My prayers and condolances go out to all. Loren was a wonderful person! Kind, considerate, caring, hard working & most importantly he had a strong faith in God. My dad was stationed at Sand Point Naval Base in the 70's - it was neat to hear him talk of his time there. Thanks for letting us serve him at McCrites -- he will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

To the family, my thoughts and prayers will be with you in your time of sorrow. Loren was a very sweet and special man, he will truly be missed. He was one of the nicest man I have ever met and I am so happy that I had the chance to have known him. I will always remember him.
