I grew up with Clare (and his family) in Durand, Mi. Both of us left Durand prior to entry in High School. His parents and mine were close friends and in later years, his mother became an integral part of our family here in Grand Rapids, Mi. We renewed our early friendship when he was still at MSU, and had a band that traveled. Ted and I attended a dance where he was playing in Owosso Mi. After Ted's graduation from MSU, we moved to Grand Rapids and Cecil and Bick Fischer, Clare's Mom and Dad were our only contacts in a brand new "city". Our first daughter Paula's first visit away from home was at the Fischer home on Hall Street. When Clare's Dad died, I loaned my car to Clare while he was in town. He played the baby grand at our house.. The same baby grand he had played at my home in Durand. At 82, I have a fondness for happy memories and most of the memories of the Fischer family are just that..Happy. We are the godparents of Clare's nephews , his namesake Clare and Mat and so the journey continues. How very special, the legacy left by Clare to the music world. With sympathy to his family..and Love, Kay (Bates) Wietke and husband Ted.
