I have met Mr. Van Cliburn several times in the sixtieth at the Ernest Allen Ranch in Fort Worth. Ernest Allen was a great sponsor of the Van Cliburn Contest and we all admired him. He brought culture to Fort Worth. A great man.

"It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" and Van Cliburn did that for the world in Russia.
His talent brought peace to our own lives. May he rest in our Lord's peace.

I met Van Cliburn at a Piggly Wiggly supermarket in Schreveport on Christmas Eve in about 1973. He was shopping; selecting fruits and vegetables, putting them in a plastic bag which he placed in his shopping cart. I remember when I spoke with him..."Are you Van Cliburn?", he was gracious, modest, kind, and spoke with a sense of humor. Thank you Mr. Cliburn for this wonderful memory. Rest In Peace.
