Andy and I were good friends in college. We both became social studies teachers. He decided to go abroad, and I elected to stay close to home. I regret to say I lost track of my friend. I have a very important job interview tomorrow and it made me think of how Andy and I always talked about working at the same school. I looked him up and was broken hearted to see that he's been gone for so long. He was a wonderful person. His sense of humor was always spot on. My wife and I always enjoyed spending time with him. I loved Andy. I wish his family the best and if there is something beyond this life, I hope I have the chance to talk with my friend one more time.

I stumbled across an email from Mr. Kappus today from my freshman year of college. I was going through a rough time deciding what I actually wanted to do and if my major was right for me. His advice was great and literally put a smile on my face the entire time. I looked him up on Facebook to see what he was doing these days and wanted to let him know I still had his email and his advice sunk in. I came across the page and although I was sad to hear of what had happened, it is clear he made in impact in the lives of so many students overseas. He had a big heart and was undoubtedly full of adventure. I just wanted to let his family know that not only did he make a difference abroad, but in the year he spent teaching in Lima, OH as well. I'm a senior in college hanging on to a piece of advice I got three years ago from Mr. Kappus. He inspired me then, he inspires me now and I will always remember him as one of my favorite teachers.

So many of his colleagues in Kuwait miss Andrew. The last few weeks before we broke up for the summer were hard because we were all meant to break up together. That was not meant to be for Andrew and we are so sorry. We will miss him hugely and so will the children. He was a kind hearted teacher and children were drawn to him. We send our love and lots of strength to his family especially his parents who must miss him immensely. Rest peacefully, Andrew.

Mr Kappus was an amazing teacher, not a compliment, but the truth. He was the only teacher that made lessons fun without even trying. He was not only a teacher but a dear friend. May his poor soul live in peace and quiet, and rise to heaven. Loved by all<3

I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked when I learned of his passing. He was one of the sweetest people I had ever gotten to meet. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!
