George use to call me sunshine but little did he know that he was my sunshine. The only reason I smiled so big when I saw him was because I looked forward to getting that warm hug and I was excited to hear what words of wisdom he had for me. Hearing all the stories of how he touched everyone's life motivates me to live everyday to the fullest and to treat others with kindness. God has taken George but he lives on in all of us, he will never be forgotten. George is looking down on us happy and overjoyed that he successfully achieved his goal,he left an imprint our hearts. LOVE YOU!

It was my privilege to teach with George's wife Doris for several years at Madrona Elementary. I had great respect for her as a professional educator and always enjoyed her students. I regret that I did not know George. He must have been a true light in the world and now will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to the Hickman family.

George was a great person who made people feel as if their Dad or Grandfather were standing right next to them ( even if they did not have one). He always gave the best advice, because everything he said came from the heart. I meet him with my Dad (Bob Sanford) when I was a kid and when my Dad and myself worked at the UW. It was one of the best things in my life to know such a great man. His parents would be proud to know that he brought together all types of races, creeds and religions to make this a better world. You will be greatly missed!

Wow still a shock to learn that you have gone on glory to rest in eternity. There is so much that could be said about you. An amazing man with incredible knowledge and wisdom. I appreciate your kindness and the long talks of wisdom that you passed along to me. I am not sure that I have met a more meek and humble man. God has truly called home one his best. I know he met you with favor and said, "Job well done thy good and faithful servant." May God comfort the Hickman family and give them strength during this time. Thanks for being a blessing in my life!

I would like to send my condolences to my 5th grade teacher @ View Ridge Elementary in Northeast Seattle, Mrs. Hickman, as well as her children - especially Vincent (since he was roughly our age @ the time, so we could definitely relate!), whom I vividly remember she spoke of often while telling family stories to the class, as well as George himself. Being that young, it would have been impossible to realize the significance of Mr. Hickman's ("my husband, George", as Doris would say) place in history - we had no idea. He sounds like he was a truly fascinating gentleman!

To George's family: our prayers are with you during this time of great loss. Thank you for sharing George with us. He was, and is, an honored member of our "Team Purp" UW Softball family. We so loved seeing him at the top of the stairs at every home game, and were delighted when he would stop by for a plate of tailgate food. What a joy it was to know him. His legacy will live on in all of you, and for that we are so grateful.
