I knew Rene' in the early 90's when I worked at Pat Catan's craft center in the framing department. She would by tons of little plastic babies, wire, & all kinds of supplies for her intense & intricate visions. When she told me about being published in an upcoming issue of Heavy Metal I was stoked. I rushed to the comic shop & proudly announced when buying it "I know this girl!". I kept it at my work for her to sign in case wasn't working & notified my fellow framer of my mad crush fan boy interest. She wrote me a letter telling me of her move & how flattered she was that I asked for her signature. I saw her about a week later before the L.A. Move & she told me a great story about how James O Bar (creator of the Crow) sent her a box with a mix tape & dead grasshoppers in it. I remember seeing her at art walks, concerts, & picking through craft supplies with devious grins of grandeur. After watching Tank Girl with my 15 yr old daughter & 12 yr old son ( their 1st time) bragging to them how I knew the brains behind the costuming & set designs, I decided to find that issue & letter & see what she's doing these days via internet. I had no idea. I am devastated. A bottle of wine is empty & tears ripple the letter & magazine. She was utterly a force of creative wonderment. The smile & art rapture my heart forever.
