I grew up at 3034 Grand Concourse in the Bronx when Artie's family lived there. Artie went to school with several of my older sisters and older brother. He visited our home many times at family get togethers as he was a good friend of my sister Joan and her husband Jack Murray. When I worked at the New York Athletic Club at age 15 and 16 before entering the U.S. Navy at age 17, Artie's Dad, who was always "Mr Donovan" to me, was kind enough to give me some boxing lessons and training tips in his spare time. always appreciated that. While our paths never crossed again since leaving the Bronx, I have always remembered Artie, his dad who always reminded me of Randolph Scott the Western actor, and his family. Interestingly, my wife's dad, Ulysses J. Bourke also served with Gen. Black Jack Pershing in France (and was his Orderly) as did Artie's Dad. Artie was always proud to say he was from the Bronx and the Bronx was always proud of Artie. May he rest in Christ eternally and may his family know God's peace.
