Burkey was the best person a person could meet. This I knew as a young child, then many years later as an adult. As his first born grandchild, I knew all the things a little person could know on farm 150; inclusion, hard work, mystery and freedom. I was included in everything at that time. As an older young person, say 5 or 8 or 10, I also learnt that gender was conditional. When I returned after gran had died, Burkey was acutually available in all and I was then able to understand his person with greater scope.. Burkey was interested, curious, gentle, steadfast, hardworking, allowing, intellectually robust (open to debate from oppositiojal held views) and kind. I remember one experience that he described, where he was sitting on the 4 wheeler down the back somewhere, whatching a group of kangaroos teach their one baby one to jump over a fence. Nudging, doing it, calling, jumping back over. Went on for hours. The little Roo ended up making it over. Gave him such delight and xsatisfacdion. This was Burkey to me. Best person and best teacher to a lot of fundamental things, taking care to support living beings learn how to jump over hard situations if they arose and doing the best you could if they didnt. Make a go of it. Right you are.

He was my loving great grandfather who i was very close too. I never got to meet my great grandmother the late Monica Burke, who died 20 years ago. He had his faults but he was the best great grandfather ever and i love and miss him dearly. Goodbye burkie
