Norman Robert “Duck” Coleman, 71 was born to Mildred Coleman and the late Johnnie S.T. Coleman on October 6, 1941 in Clayton, Mississippi. Duck was baptized at Golden Gate Baptist Church and was a member of Mt. Joyner Missionary Baptist Church at the time of his death. He married Diane Adair on October 26, 1962 and to this union was born one daughter, Karen Renee Coleman. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960 and retired from the U.S. Navy. During his career Norman also worked for International Harvester and the Mark Luttrell Reception Center. After retirement he enjoyed many exciting endeavors and found great joy in serving the community through St. Andrew AME Church’s Food Pantry Ministry, Food Works. Duck was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie S.T. Coleman, his brother, Johnnie S.T. Coleman, Jr., his sister, Carolyn Faye Coleman Daugherty, niece, Wylea Estee Smith, sister-in-law, Terry Adair and brother-in-law, Charles Adair Sr. He leaves his wife, Diane Coleman; daughter, Karen Renee Coleman; mother, Mildred Coleman; siblings, Curtis Coleman, Clarence Coleman (Berry), Margaret Coleman Walls (L.T.) and Marvin Coleman Aldridge (Edward); brothers-in-law, Robert Adair, Sr. (Margaret) and Holloway Adair (Jackie); sister-in-law, Theris Adair and many, many other relatives and friends to celebrate his life. Visitation will be held on Thursday August 15 at St. Andrew AME Church, 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday August 16 at St. Andrew AME Church located at 767 S. Parkway E. at 11 am. Interment will be immediately following in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Civil Rights Museum. R.S. I can see "Duck" standing outside the Civil Rights Museum taking a "break" from volunteering. A man of few words he had a great attitude and smile. I will miss him. Our loss is Heavens gain!
