Darrell "Hoagie" Harguth passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior on the morning of June 1, 2014. Hoagie was born on May, 22, 1934, in Gluek, Minnesota. At the age of 17, Hoagie joined the Navy and served with distinction on the USS Hornet during the Korean War. Following the Navy he spent most of his career with the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire District where he became an Asst. Chief and head of the Fire Protection Bureau. Hoagie will be remembered for his dedicated service to his country and to the Contra Costa Fire District as well as his love for his friends and family, upon whom he showered his compassion, generosity and hearty laugh. Hoagie was predeceased by his beloved wife Marilyn and daughter Karen. He is survived by daughter Jennie, sons Mike and Joe, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass,10 am, Fri., 6/6 at Christ the King Church, 199 Brandon Rd, Pleasant Hill. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette. Offer condolences at oakparkhillschapel.com

Darrell was such a nice man and he touched so many lives... People of all stripes and from all backgrounds. Always the gentleman with a thoughtful word and a warm smile. Rest in peace Hoagie.

So sorry to hear of Hoagie's passing. He was a wonderful man and I have many wonderful memories of time spent with him and Marilyn throughout my childhood. RIP -
