To Dan's family,
I was in 3rd platoon with Dan. I also served with Dan in Kuwait back in 2001. During that first deployment Dan along with Mike Sonoda and Paul Neubauer were the three guys who mentored and became encouraging friends when I was a young and scared PFC. I was with all of them again in Iraq and Dan really was larger than life. Dan was always a kind and understanding friend I could talk to without having to worry about being judged or ridiculed, I trusted him wholeheartedly. Dan was there for me for some of the toughest times in Iraq. I remember him sitting down with me on the balcony of our barracks after my friend John Fuller got hit. He put his arm over my shoulder and like a big brother told me that I could always count on him and the guys. Dan really was like a big brother to me. The night we got hit I was with Dan in his last moments, I held him until the tanks and the medevac came. As I write this I can't find any words to properly explain this moment with you. I only hope and pray that I can talk with you one day. In Dan's honor I named my son, born in May of 2008, Caleb Daniel LeMar. I hope I can find you and talk with your family someday, the family of one of the bravest most honorable men I've every known.

To the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Scheile:
Always remembering Daniel. "Some gave all."
To the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Scheile:
Please accept my remembrance of Daniel on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.
Memories of you are like the light of a candle in the darkness; they keep us going. You are in the thoughts and prayers of those who love you, but especially today. Vaya con dios!
To the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Scheile:
Remembering Daniel on the anniversary of his passing. May our fallen heroes never be forgotten!
"Don't Let The Memory Of Them Drift Away"
As usual, Danny, you are often in my thoughts and prayers, but especially on this day, to honor you and all of those who serve or have served.
Danny, it's hard to believe it's been 4 years; we all still miss you very much! The girls are growing but miss you terribly. Your spirit will be with them always.
"Thank you for your service" seems so inadequate, but it is heartfelt and sincere, and the best way to honor you is to keep you in our hearts and memories always.
To the family of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Scheile:
Daniel gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."
"Don't Let The Memory Of Them Drift Away"
What a kind man. He is truly missed
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Daniel, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Remembering a Hero on his Birthday
I never knew your Daddy. Any words that I say can not ease your pain or bring back your Hero.
Please remember all the wonderful times that you had with your Daddy. His spirit will be circling in the blowing wind.
Close your eyes and what do you see.
Sleep and Peace and your Daddy set free.
Free to ride the wind and touch us all.
Free to sing with the angels and thats not all.
Free in a place where spring is always.
Here and there your daddy is filled with glory.
All the smile that he gave,
All the laughter that was made
As the angels circle in the blowing wind
Always remember what we could not forget!!
Your Daddy will always be looking out for his little girl from heaven. He will be with you forever in your heart. Just call his name and his spirit to comfort you.
May god grant you comfort knowing that your Daddy is in heaven. Always remember that your Daddy is your Hero and will always be so proud of You
I just popped in to say that you are looked over and thought of daily...(wink) I trust your recent receipt of something special to commemorate your dad was received with warmth of heart. You always have an "Angel" by your side.
Keep your chin up high and know you are watched over from above.
Sgt Daniel R. Scheile is a true American hero. He will always be in our hearts. May God bless Sgt. Scheile's family and all who loved him.
Dear Kelli, Marissa and Jennifer,
My name is Kim Willmon and I live in Pekin, Illinois. I emailed your dad a brief time while he was in Iraq and I still have the emails if you would like them. I found his name for his unit on AnySoldier.com He also sent me pictures of all three of you and I still have those also. You are beautiful young ladies. He was so proud of all three of you!! It is his own words to a stranger (me) that he bragged about you. You all were the light of his life. I have looked for 2 years for a way to let you know and just now found this site or I would have sent this message sooner. He was so proud of your mom for being the mom and wife that she is, so proud of you with your cheerleading and so proud of Marissa for looking up to her big sister. He was a good man. Please let me know or have your mom contact me and I will forward the emails to you. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org or my work is email@example.com or my phone is 309-643-3919.
Your Dad is a great American Hero. From one GI to another, I salute you SFC Scheile on this Veterans Day, 2007. May God bless you and your family.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Jennifer,Kelli,Marissa,and Dan's family;
I was Dan's Platoon Sergeant and Platoon leader (after ours got wonded)during our tour. It is with the humblest and saddest of hearts that I finally post here.
Dan was my "go to guy". We jokingly refered to Dan as "Peterson" from the movie "The Green Berets".He never, never failed in any task he was given. I have so many fond memories of Dan, both back on the FOB or out in the field in patrol. During dismounted patrols through the Palm grove jungles along the Tigis River,he always requested to be "point man". When my track got hit one night, he raced his track and crew at top speed passed mine, to assist and provide cover so we could engage the attackers. I could go on and on about Dan. He made me laugh so many times. He was such an impressive leader. The men in his section were the second most imporant thing to him. The first...His family. He always spoke so poudly of Kelli and Marissa. I was there that night...and it was an emotional ordeal for us all. There were hero's that night doing their all to protect and save Dan and the the others in his track. The forces that massed that evening was impressive to say the least. I will sorley miss them all. There is not a day or night that goes buy that I do not remember Dan and the others. Please feel free to contact me anytime. I would glady speak more if you so deisred.
With the utmost humility and respect

My brother in combat and will be my brother in heaven. Dan, keep the gates of heaven safe and protected, as you protected us on earth. We will greet each other again my brother and it shall be a grand reunion. I know you are smiling down upon on us from above, your spirit lives on with in us all my brother.
He that dwelleth in the asecret place of the most High shall abide under the bshadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I atrust.Surely he shall deliver thee from the asnare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy ashield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the a terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the awicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy abitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his aangels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt atread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the bdragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Danny was my cousin and due to family split I only remember him as a fun-loving young teen. I can easily see him as the devoted father and friend that I read about in this guest book. I was saddened to hear of his death and the loss for the family.
This is me daddy R.I.P daddy remember i will always love you alive or not i wil never forget you please don't forget me
To Danny's family: this 1st anniversary is very hard for you. Please take comfort in your memories; as long as you have them, he will live in your heart. Those of us who love this country are grateful for his -- and yours-- sacrifice and mourn with you.
In Rememberance of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Scheile, on this 1st anniversary of the day he gave his life for our Country and for Freedom.
May Daniel rest in the Mighty Hands of God and know that he is a True American hero, that shall NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I Pray that God's Loving Grace and Comfort will continue to be with the Scheile family.
There will never be enough ways,

for their Supreme Sacrifice,
my brother among them. KIA-Vietnam 1967.

To the Family of Sgt. lst Class Daniel R. Scheile:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

Condolences from my family to your family. Daniel is in a wonderful place now and is remembered as a hero.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I felt the sorrow for the family realizing that the loss was for me and all of us who live here in this great country so that we may have the life we have grew to love. My prayers will be with in the days to come and remember when you see only one foot print in the sand it's because God is carrying you to the end.
To the Scheile Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I was devastated when I heard the news about Dan. I still can't believe this has happened.
I was a friend of Dan and Jennifer, and lived behind them for the last 3 years in Antioch until about 1 month ago. I clearly remember talking to Dan one day about the military and his service, and I asked him 'aren't you afraid to go to war, if something happens?', and he replied 'not at all, it is worth fighting for'. I'll never forget that. Dan was committed to serving his country and protecting freedom. He is a hero in my book and I will never forget the sacrafice he has made for all of us.
I remember when my back yard fence fell down between our houses, and I planned to build a new one. Well, unfortunately the day before, I came down with strep throat and was very sick. Dan and Jennifer came over, helped me haul away the old fence, and Dan helped the entire weekend to build the new fence (and he did a great job - Dan was a craftsman for sure!). I appreciated him helping me, because I could have never done it without him.
I know there is nothing I can say to ease your pain, it just doesn't make sense. But hopefully Dan is in a better place watching over us all....
Love, Jason Templer
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I remeber how you told me what a good dad Dan was to your girls. I also remember the flowers he had sent you at work several times and how proud you were of him serving his (our) country. He will be surely missed.
Such a loss - such a man. God bless your family and may you be comforted and supported by knowing how many people are joined with you in thought and prayer at this difficult time. We may never have met Dan but we are all connected.
I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our prayers and if there is anything you need (anything at all), let us know. We are here for you.....God bless...
To the entire family,
I am so sorry for the loss that you have all had to endure. I hope you can all take solace in the fact that what Daniel was doing was both noble and courageous. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
The freedom that we all enjoy is made more precious by the sacrifices of those that gave all to keep us free. May God bless your family and keep you strong.
Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to let you and your family know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers every ningt. And remenber that God would not give you anything you couldn't handle, things will get better.
Thinking of you
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I went to high school with Danny and he was a wonderful, thoughtful and beautiful person. Memories of him will be forever in my heart. Thoughts of his family will be in my prayers. God Bless You All. He is everyone's HERO.
The sad news has shaken the entire Bay Area. Daniel's family will ever remember the day that they built on his courage, dedication, and commitment to begin again to be a special family without his love and leadership. We are grateful for his bravery to protect America and to bring elections to those who have not had that gift and responsibility. We all mourn your loss. God bless you.

I never knew him---but admire his courage in serving our country and to help Iraqui People know the
ultimate gifts we have...FREEDOM!
God Bless you All!
He was a very brave man and made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. May God bless the family and friends left behind.
My most sincere condolences on your loss. He joins the hallowed list of American Patriots who have given us all that we are and all that we enjoy as Americans. From this old Marine Veteran, a salute and a prayer.
May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Danny has made a difference in every life he has touched. I'm so honored to of known such a hero.

Your friend always,
The ultimate sacrifice from a brave warrior. Thanks for your service to our country and courage for putting yourself in harms way.
I never got to meet Danny, but he was family and he was loved. My mother, Patty, and I send our deepest sympathy to all.
Love, Cousin Heather
Trina and Gay,
So sorry to hear about Danny. I can think of no words to express how much this hurts us all. We love you guys.
Daniel, thank you for serving our nation and protecting our liberty. Over the years, you and many others like you have stood before our enemies while others hid behind hollowed words and solgans. God Bless you and your loved ones.
I believe that most free people in this world are walking in the bootprints of American Soldiers. Danny's family can be proud. He had the courage to make such bootprints.
I hope the Scheile family will take some comfort in the fact that Daniel was doing something noble, something that he wanted to do, even knowing the risks he was taking. God will bless him.
"As long as there are men like these there will be a United States of America."
Words cannot express my sympathy for your loss. Words, also, cannot express the honor I feel when I think that someone I did not know would lay down his life for mine. Daniel did. He laid down his life for his Country and that is me. I pray God's blessings on your family. Daniel is truly a hero.
With Pride and Honor, SSG Scheile served ~ and, it is because of his service that we are free. May God continue to bless his soul, and may he rest in peace.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they
protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they
perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus,
our Lord and Savior. Amen.
“I’ll lend you for a little while
A child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives
And mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or
Twenty two or three,
But will you ’til I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his days be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lane
I have selected you.
Now will you give all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
To take him back again?”
I fancy that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this child shall bring,
The risk of grief we’ll run;
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
We’ll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner then we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes.
And try to understand.” -Edgar Albert Guest

I'm also a member of Soldiers' Angels. My heart goes out to Daniel's family and friends. It breaks my heart that we lost another hero.
My name is Louella Sadler and I am a member of Soldiers Angels. We are a volunteer group that supports our military through adopting a soldier, letter writing and any needed support for our troops and their families.
I did not personally know Daniel but I knew his Angel, Karen Griffin. Daniel was Karen's first adopted soldier and so special to him. He couldn't have had a better Angel than her to watch over him, pray for him and his family and she wrote him letters, emails and sent care packages to him. She loved him as if he were part of her family. He was quiet except when it came to talking about his family.
I am so sorry for your loss and I know from up above he will always be watching over his loved ones and he will be with you forever.
May he rest in peace.

My name is Karen Griffin and I am a member of "Soldier's Angels". We are a group that supports our Military through "adoptions of a soldier" and through letter writing teams, care of the wounded, and any type of support needed.
I am proud to say that I was Daniel's Angel. I can't express that feeling I felt last night when reading on the DOD'a casualty list I saw his name. There was a pain in my stomach and I stared in disbelief because it is every Angel's fear. I adopted him in early Summer. I sent some emails and letters and packages to him. He was quiet not like some Soldiers. He was kind and spoke of mainly his family.
I heard from him not long ago and he sent me a picture via email. I was happy that his time was drawing close and he would soon be home, and I would adopt another soldier. That is how it is supposed to go. Not losing one this way. This is a hurt that I am going to feel for a long time.
I can only hope that I was a good Angel to him. Gave him the support he needed and perhaps a smile now and then when he would read my letters telling of my large family of 5 children and a menagerie of pets. I would joke about them.
Daniel I will always remember you. You were my first Soldier. I have many now and I love and care for them as I hope I did you. You are in a better place now.
Your family and friends are in my prayers and I am so sorry, there are just no words. Daniel was and always will be my Hero, my soldier. May you rest in peace and keep watch over your brother soldiers. I will miss you so much.
