My sympathy and condolences to the family. I had great respect for Phil and know that his life was focused on his beautiful daughters - he will be fondly and lovingly remembered always.

Dear Christina, Diana and Linda, Your father was a singular guy, super intelligent, funny as all get-out, focused in his work, and always ready for a good time. He loved working with young athletes and he loved you three with all his mighty heart. My sincere and warm condolences.

Phil was a brilliant man...He was a great coach but an equally great writer, scholar, singer, and friend. His number one priority in his life were his three wonderful daughters and his grandchildren. The one word that describes Phil to me is "genuine." He was real and did not put on airs. He was a leader for social justice during his time at the Oakland Museum and was truly a great mind during his tenure at the Museum. He could also belt out a great doo-wop tune and had a fantastic sense of humor. A true Renaissance man and a coach that really cared about his players. I treasure my friendship with Phil and learned so much from him about life during our many lunches! Good bye my friend.

I was honored to have grown up with the Mummas and to have played for several of Coach Mumma's OYA sports teams, both basketball and soccer. He always chose me for his teams even though I was a terrible player! He will be missed.

Your legacy will carry on with your children and grandchildren. We will miss you very much but we'll see you soon. Love you, Dad. I couldn't have asked for a better father and role model.
