Scanning all the websites for any new information about my most favourite author, I chanced upon a clip from an interview with Ruth and heard her voice for the first time......gentle, kind, and dignified, not at all proud or haughty. Her autobiographies are my favourites. I pick them up from time to time and, opening on any page, am instantly transported to that time, that place, the people she was with and her innermost feelings...that's the mark of a good writer, that she continues to reach out to her fellow human beings, even after her death. Ruth, thank-you for sharing your life with me and making me realise the glory of life and that I am not alone in my bewilderment.
Oh Dear Ruth..how l often longed to be able to tell you how much I loved your stories from my early teen years. I have journeyed with you through each one.since. I feel I've lost a lifelong friend.

Ruth, your autobiographies have been a light for me. Thank you.
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
