Sherlach, Mary J.
Mary J. Greene Sherlach, age 56, beloved wife of William Sherlach of Trumbull, died on Friday, December 14, 2012. Born in Endicott, NY on February 11, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Annetta Corgiat Greene. Always interested in helping others, Mary received a Bachelor's degree in psychology from SUNY Cortland and a Master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She started her career working in psychiatric facilities in New York. Her work as a school psychologist began in North Haven and Redding. In 1994 she started her work at Sandy Hook Elementary School, doing what she termed "God's work" by helping children who needed her the most. Mary is remembered as a loving wife and mother, and a caring soul who was always there to lend an ear or a shoulder to someone in need. In addition to her husband Bill of 31years, she leaves two loving daughters, Maura Lynn Schwartz and her husband Eric of NJ and Katy S. Sherlach of VA, two brothers, Joseph Greene and his wife Kelty of CO, Dennis Greene of FL, two sisters, Jane Dougherty and her husband Timothy of CO and Suzanne Connors and her husband Dale of CO. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. for a Memorial Mass. Committal will be private. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Fund for Health and Wellness, 383 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851 to continue her work with children and mental health. For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed for his name by ministering and continuing to minister to the holy ones (Hebrews 6:10). Mary will never be forgotten for all the work she did for her community and especially those sweat little ones in her care. May God continue to strengthen your family in these “times hard to deal with” (2Tim 3:1), especially without a beloved one such as Mary Sherlach.

‘Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to persons like them.' Then Jesus takes the children in his arms, and blesses them. (Mt 19:13-15) Isn't it good to know that Jesus loves little children?
We must continue to cherish our little ones like Jesus before tragedy takes them away.

Somehow I've known that Mary was a Very Special Person in my own mind that goes clear back to the Sixth Grade of Parochial School. With me not realizing that it was Mary that was involved in the Sandy Hook Tragedy; and not really knowing because I hadn't seen the mentioning Her Maiden name has crushed me. My thoughts also goes out to Dennis, and all of Her Family now and till the end of time. I bare such sorrow knowing that Mary truly was a wonderful human being; someone that you could Truely Love and Respect! I hope to meet up with Her once again.

In Memory of Mary Sherlach
February 11, 2013
It takes someone very special to understand the problems of a child
Someone like Mary Sherlach whose manner with them was ever so mild.
She watched each child who crossed her path
An abused one brought on her personal wrath.
To help them cope with everyday strife
To protect them from the forces of evil was her life.
She loved each Sandy Hook child as if they were her own
To carry their heart-felt burdens she was prone.
The proof is there when she gave her life trying to protect these precious gems
It only befitting that she enters the gates of heaven with them.
With Jesus sitting there smiling with His arms open wide
Saying, "Welcome Mary, you're home now, so come on inside".
So the life of Mary Sherlach let us celebrate
The woman who had the ability, with all classes of people, to communicate.
Through her family and friends her memory will live on as will her spirit and character
And through them she will be remembered from now ‘til ever after.
So let me leave you with one last thought
To help cope when feeling lonely and distraught.
It's okay to weep for Mary whom you loved so much
It's okay to need to see her smile and yearn for her loving touch.
It's okay to show anger and shed a river of tears
It's all part of the healing process to help cope with the loneliness and fears.
So bow your head in the most earnest prayer and say
Thank you dear God, ‘ere the time be so short, for sending her my way.”

To The Shelach Family -
I am sorry for your loss. Mary is a hero of extraordinary measure and depths. She did what a mother would have done for her own children, protect them. But this was for those she was responsible for.
Keep Mary in your heart - where she has been always. This gives respect to her memory, and you will never have lost her.
With Love, Care, and Prayer.

Lastnight i just thought about all the children and i cried. Whats this world coming to? Like everyone else this event has taken its toll on me emotionaly. It had me questioning god and everything else. I went to bed upset and in my dreams the women mary was standing there in a cream colored off white dress pants with a matching blazer looking imaculately dressed just smiling at me like i should smile to. I dont remember dreams much but this one seemed real and i took comfort in it and wanted to share it. My prayers go out to her family.
