Rosella Rodine Carlson Felt: What a lady! What a cousin to my mother! What a great-aunt to me! What a worker! And what a cook! I have nothing but good memories of Rosella's humility and her unassuming smile, as I think of her preparing roast beef, string beans, and corn-on-the-cob for us, on those (too few and too unappreciated-by-me) occasions, when our Sytsma family would go to the Felt ranch, up near Sumner/Mason/Ansley. I wish I had known better, at the time, exactly what I was looking at in that Felt house. It was love and work: God's love and work, Warren's love and work, and Rosella's love and work. Wasn't it? Thank God, on the last such occasion I remember, about 1990 or so, I was starting to "catch on" to what I was witnessing: Carolyn and Rosella's enduring, cousins-only friendship. (Both had recently lost their mothers, and they fellow-shipped alone together in the kitchen, quietly of course, perhaps without having to say it.) And in the parlor, Warren and Milton were making fun of, pontificating upon, and agonizing over, the current state of American and World Affairs. And I was the eager victim of Warren's gentle sarcasm as he teased me about my girlfriend. How he put his chiding should be shared only in a private message, and few would understand it. Trust me, it was pure comic relief. An we all knew it! Genuine, Trademarked, Warren Felt Brand Sarcasm. I will leave it at that. Condolences and happy thoughts to Jerry, Rose Marie, and Joyce at this time, as we celebrate the life of a spectacular woman, my Aunt Rosella. --Lennis Sytsma
