I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Anna for one year at Waterman Elementary while I was teaching sixth grade. I also served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Waterman HS during that year. (1985-86 I believe). I had previously taught for seven years, but all at the HS level. She was a valuable resource to help me during my time teaching in the elementary school. After moving on to other HS teaching and coaching positions I only got to see Anna one more time when my family and I visited her at her home in DeKalb. She was such a caring teacher and individual. I just found out today (2/12/15) that she had passed away. You have my deepest sympathy. She will be dearly missed.

Since I became a teacher 10 years ago I often thought of Mrs. Diab often. I had her in 4th grade, oh so many years ago. It seems like yesterday. I remember her maroon-colored Volvo, the play we put on, our thanksgiving dinner. A few years ago I taught 4th grade instead of art. I took inspiration from Mrs. Diab, challenging myself to do the extra things she did for us. I liked that she had the courage to read Bridge to Terabithia to us, despite the controversy of childhood death as it's theme. One of my strongest memories of my 4th grade was reading a different Katherine Patterson novel - The Great Gilly Hopkins, which dealt with a foster-care child. Rest well, Mrs. Diab!

I had the opportunity to know Anna as one of her healthcare providers. Through the last 3-4 years of her life, I have had the privilege to be touched by her truly kind soul. She was always looking to help someone else. She wanted to make the world a better place and she did just that. Even if she wasn't feeling well, I would walk into the room she was in and she would smile and ask how my daughter was and how my in laws were doing. She loved children and often showed me pictures of her grandchildren. She also liked to see pictures of my daughter. I will truly miss her.

It is my great sadness to learn of the death of Anna. Anna was a truly sweet soul. She loved children and animals and was a devoted friend and Mother/grandmother.

I had the good fortune of having Anna be one of my cooperating teachers when I was in student teacher practicum at Waterman Elementary. We had fun putting together meaningful art lessons and I assisted Anna with her reading group, Kindergarten class and school-wide art and talent shows. We did so with humor and camaraderie that lasted for many years.

As friends, we enjoyed making things together and cooking. We had many productive discussions about education and how to share love and acceptance.

Although I have not had contact for many years, I know that Anna made a big difference in my life.

I am glad that there was an Anna Diab in our world. I am sad she's gone of the flesh, but I know her legacy will remain.

Thanks, Anna!
