I think God must have inspired me with thoughts about Sister Marianne tonight. So I went to the internet to see if I could locate her. Sadly, I learned that she had gone to her eternal rest.

Sister Marianne and I became good friends when we both were stationed in McHenry. Illinois. She taught at St. Mary Middle School and I at Montini Primary Center.

We spent time going to Chicago for days of recollection, then doing a little shopping and topping the day off with lunch - probably at MacDonald's.

Sister Marianne was very generous in giving her time to take me out on the road when I was learning to drive. Since there was a car at the school, I had to learn how to drive. I took driver's lessons from the local high school on Saturdays and Sister filled in practice time so I would pass my driver's test.

One day, when we were out driving, she told me to pull over - as she had seen the place to go for the driver's test. God was surely with me. The person who took me out for the road test was a minister. As he said to me, "We're kind of in the same business!

I can't thank Sister Marianne enough. Driving really changed my life style and helped me get around to act as Eucharistic Minister for the Church and other things.

My deepest prayers are with Sister Marianne - friend and Sister of St. Francis. My gratitude to her for her help, helping me laugh and overcome loneliness in being away for my Mercy Convent in North Carolina.

To her brother, Tony, may I express my deepest sorrow. You must have been very proud of her. I will keep her in prayer each day and ask God's eternal happiness for her. Special thoughts for you and your loved ones who had the joy of being a great part of her life.

In Christ,
Sister Patricia Durbin, RSM
