Dorothy Helen Kuntor Trail

EDENTON - Dorothy Helen Kuntor Trail, 93, of 108 Mark Drive, Apt. 8, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, in her home.

Mrs. Trail was born in Rochester, NY on October 13, 1924, and was the daughter of the late John and Carrie Felix Kuntor. Dorothy was brought up Lutheran but was a plain Christian at heart, loving all people.

She was the first one in her family to graduate from college, SUNY at Brockport. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in 3 years and taught first and second grades in public school systems in Virginia and New York. She became a homemaker when her children starting arriving. The family settled in Clifton Springs, NY, where she was a dedicated member of the United Church of Phelps for over 25 years, as well as a staunch Girl Scout leader and voting election inspector.

They moved to Edenton when Paris retired and she became a faithful member of Edenton United Methodist Church where she served in many positions. Christian education was a passion. She enjoyed Sunday school (both as superintendant and as participant.) Her involvement in Woman's Circles and church reading groups were a great source of pleasure for her.

Her community involvement included over 20 years of work with the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, literacy programs, school mentoring, Meals on Wheels, birding and horticultural clubs. The Nature Conservancy also honored her for her support of Nags Head Woods Preserve. Political and government involvement was important to her and she voted in every election.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Raymond Trail who died in July 1999; a daughter, Robin Braun; two sisters, Elfrieda "Patsy" Norton and Margaret "Peggy" Court; and a brother, Henry Kuntor.

Surviving are her children, Pepper Trail (Debra) of Ashland, OR, Toby Pennell (Tommy) of Portsmouth, VA, and Matthew Trail (Amy) of Fabius, NY; a son-in-law, Joseph Braun of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Lark, Graham, Sage, Paul, Tiffany, Stephen, and Mia; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. W. Christopher Aydlett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Edenton United Methodist Church, PO Box 37, Edenton, NC 27932.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. She was a very loyal friend of my wife, Frances always enjoyed the cards that Dorthy sent her especially when she was in the Skilled Nursing Facility. May she Rest In Peace.

I was so saddened to hear of Dorothy's passing, she was a great big soul in a compact package. It was an honor and a joy to know her and her family.
