Your dad will be missed. I know that both my dad (Paul Gerstner) and I enjoyed going fishing with him and the guys up in Canda. My mom (Kay Gerstner) enjoyed his company for many years as part of the "Extension Has-Beens" group that would dine together several times a year. My earliest memory of John was on our trip to the National Convention in Atlanta. He rode in the car with us to it. I think that I was 7.

Our condolences.

My parents, Norman and Catherine Arnold, spoke often of John and Miriam. They loved getting together for the retired county agents monthly luncheon where John would tease that Miami County had more crime reported in the paper than Dark Co. Suzanne Arnold Scranton Troy, Ohio

I was lucky enough to call John my friend. My wife and I joined Clayton United Methodist Church a few months ago, and John sat in the pew right right behind us on Sundays. I knew John to be a dear, humble man who seemed to know a lot about everything we talked about. Now having read John's profile I think I better understand just how brilliant a man he truly was. My one comfort is knowing exactly where John is now. For John's family, and especially for Joanne, know that you are in our prayers and if we can do anything please ask. My deepest regrets, Billy Davis

My early years in Extension work were inspired by knowing and working with John. I was the 4-h Agent in Pike Co. in the 1960's Later moving to Dayton with the Five Rivers MetroParks staff, I did a lot of judging for John at the Mont. Co. Fair. Dane & Priscilla Mutter, Dayton , Ohio

John was my mentor and good friend throughout my career with Ohio State University Extension. I spoke with him last week and planned to pick him up for lunch on Friday. I will miss John, his great stories, and mostly his friendship.

I ate lunch every Wednesday with John at Greenville Kiwanis for the past 6 years. I never thought last Wednesday would be the last Kiwanis meeting with him. He was a good man, full of knowledge, and a real gentleman. He loved going to Kiwanis and he added a lot to the club. He helped out to the very end of his life. My condolences to the family. Joe Payne
