Muriel Olguin Obituary

Muriel Olguin, the "creative spark" beside her husband John Olguin throughout their 52-year marriage, has died.
Her passing on Feb. 10 at the age of 93 - from complications of a heart attack and six years after her husband died - marks something of an end of an era in San Pedro.
For decades, the pair, who met as children in San Pedro and married in 1948, were among the port town's most active, best known and productive members.

Dear Vi, Monica, and John,

Muriel was like liquid silver - mercury to me.
She truly was John's other half, and I felt how whole and safe and wonderful the world was when they were together.
. . .now they are back together again laughing, playing, and all is right in heaven and on this old Earth.

I am sorry for your loss, know you will miss your dear Mom so.

Angels to you, some of the most wonderful people I've known in my entire life.
God bless all of you.

Dear Viola, Monica and John Jr.,
Muriel was always and example to live life to the fullest. Her focus was like a laser seeing into her art, family and friends more than others ever could. For us she will live on in her paintings. Our sincere condolences.

Dear Olguin Family,
May you be surrounded by the love of family and friends during this challenging time. And may you be comforted by fond memories. I have such nice ones of Whale Watch parties at your parent's home, and the love that was in that home.
Sincere condolences,

Thank you Muriel for being such a good friend to Barton Hill Elementary School in San Pedro. In 2008, Barton Hill celebrated its 100 year anniversary. You and John came to our school and offered to paint a mural in the hallway by our children's library. We love your beautiful mural and we love you and John. God bless you both.

I just found out that beautiful Muriel passed away. What a sad day indeed. I had known John, her husband, since I was a child growing up in San Pedro. I often saw Muriel, but didn't know her very well, until I took a writing course at the Cabrillo Beach bathhouse. Muriel was writing her memoirs that would be shared with her grandchildren. She wrote about her motorcycle rides, how she met the love of her life John, and all her life experiences. I hung on to her every word. I grew to know Muriel and what a wonderful person she was! Joyful, passionate, full of life, and artistic. When John passed away, I would see Muriel, with her beautiful daughter, in the community. She would remember me and with a twinkle in her eye, give me a big hug. I will miss you Muriel as I miss John. My deepest sympathies to the entire Olguin family. Muriel is now with her dear John. I love you both!

As a young kid growing up in San Pedro I had the best of both worlds; a great town and a great family. Hanging out at my Uncle John and Aunt Muriel's home and playing with my cousins Viola, Monica and Johnny enabled me to enjoy a great childhood. I miss my Uncle John and will certainly miss my Aunt Muriel, but they are together again; this time forever. Love you all.
