STEPHEN EVANS (STEVE) HOAG
January 30, 1915 - October 27, 2012
Stephen Evans Hoag (97) a 66 year resident of Torrance, California passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012 after a long battle with peripheral artery disease. Steve was born in Burlington, Vermont on January 30, 1915 to Frank and Hazel Hoag. He spent his childhood growing up in Vermont and following his graduation from high school he attended diesel/mechanics school. He joined the Navy in 1937 and was assigned to the USS Missouri as an electrician; he was discharged in 1939. Steve met the love of his life in Balboa, California, Thelma Merle Davis, and they were married on September 21, 1940 in Juneau, Alaska. The following year they were blessed with the birth of their twins Mary Ann and Dan on September 3, 1941. Eventually, due to the war, the family moved back to the lower states and found their way to Southern California. Steve followed his love of mechanics/machinery as a career and retired from Rockwell (Boeing) in January, 1980. Following his retirement and the death of Merle in 1987, he passed his time with family, his love of machinery, and helping with the Indian Missions and church work. Steve was a member of Sovereign Grace Bible Church, 101 South Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, CA. where he was a member of the Elder Board along with numerous bible study groups. Steve leaves behind his children Mary Ann Thomas, Dan Hoag, grandchildren Steve Thomas (Susan), Teri Ann Thomas Shinde (Kiyoshi), Brian Hoag (Michele). Great grandchildren Michael Shinde, Matthew and Nicholas Hoag (twins), great-great grandchild Joselyn Ishii Shinde; a sister, Mary Hutchins (Vermont), nieces Sujan Yates (Gary) of Huntington Beach, CA and Ginger Etkind (Norm) of Vermont. Great nieces and nephews Christine Marie Aldolphson (Torvald) of Texas, Dallas Reed (Beth), Dalton Reed (April) of Vermont. Great-great nieces and nephews Douglas Winters, Suzanne Winters Alex Torvaldson of Texas and Heather Reed (Matt), Samantha Reed, Andrew Reed Vermont and great great great niece Teagan Reed (Vermont). Services will be at Sovereign Grace Bible Church, Redondo Beach, CA on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Milestone Hospice, 1500 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance, CA 90501. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I never had the chance to meet him but my Grandma ( Louise Burrows) knew him. He was such a blessing for her. He would pick her up for church on Sunday's. She always had such nice things to say about him and I'm sorry that I did not get the chance to meet him.
