Thomas Allen Obituary
In May 1988, Gov. George Deukmejian appointed Allen to the South Bay Municipal Court in Torrance. Allen volunteered to handle the busy arraignment court, the first stop for every defendant charged with a felony.
Retired Judge Dudley Gray II, who grew up around Allen's children and eventually served alongside Allen in the Torrance courthouse, said no one else could handle the volume of cases in the arraignment court "with the high degree of professionalism and competency that he could."

To the family of "The Judge", as those who knew him often referred to him....A very singular man... I knew him as a friend, fishing buddy, confident, and he was our wedding officiant. Those whose paths he crossed were enriched by him. He had a zest for life and no matter what he always had time for you. He was the iconic story teller. To the Allen Family I send my deepest sympathy. My fondest memory of Tommy was when he was the officiant at my wedding, July 1994. I met Tom as a staff member of Assemblyman Dick Floyd.
