Janet Koch Obituary

Janet G. Koch KINGSTON- Janet G. Koch, 85, a lifelong resident of Kingston, N.Y., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont, in the presence of her family. She was born May 5, 1932 in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., to the late Henry and Gertrude (Shaw) Roesler. Janet was a graduate of Kingston High School with honors in 1950. After high school, she worked for several years for the Personal Finance Company on Wall St., in Kingston. She married John W. Koch on Nov. 22, 1953. At that time, Janet put aside her career, devoting her life to caring for her family. She also acted as Secretary/Treasurer for the family business. Janet was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Kingston where she was an active volunteer: running the church’s nursery, organizing rummage sales, and contributing to bake sales for the women’s group, W.E.L.C.A. She managed the church’s outreach program in the Rondout area, the “Building-Up Store”, for many years. She was an avid fan of crossword puzzles, Jeopardy!, and any type of word games. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barbara Joscelyn and her husband Thomas of Ulster Park, John E. Koch and his wife Patricia of Renton, Wash., Sandra Gorr of Trucksville, Pa.; five grandchildren; her half brother, Henry Roesler; as well as several nieces and nephews. Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, N.Y., 12401, where friends and family may visit on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. with burial following in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Memorial Fund, 104 Wurts St., Kingston, N.Y., 12401. When my Granny died, I was 12 and inconsolable. Mrs Koch told me that it was ok to be sad for myself because I missed Granny so much, but that I should be happy for Granny because she was with Jesus and that, one day, we'd all be together again. So, I'm happy that Mrs. Koch is with Jesus, and I look forward to seeing her again. My deepest sympathies to the family.

I was 12 when my Granny died, and inconsolable. Mrs. Koch told me that even though I was sad for myself, because I missed my Granny so, I should be happy for Granny because she was with Jesus and that one day we would all be together again. So, I'm happy for Mrs. Koch, as she is most assuredly with Jesus and I'm looking forward to when we'll all be together again. With my deepest sympathies for the family, Kathi Schoonmaker
