Robert E. Grot Burnt HillsRobert E. Grot, 73, of Scotch Bush Road, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his residence with his loving family surrounding him. He was born on September 13, 1940 in Chicago, IL and was the son of the late Arnold and Olga (Loniak) Grot. Bob lived in Burnt Hills since 1969. He graduated from Bishop Noll High School in Indiana, class of 1958. He received his Master's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University and later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Architectural History and Restoration Technology from Empire State College. He was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and a veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service. Bob worked for several years at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as an Engineer. When he graduated from Empire State College, he opened Grot Enterprises and he enjoyed over 12 years of specialty work on housing restorations and repairs. In his final working years, he built, owned and operated with passion the Saratoga Tae Kwon Do Academy in Ballston Spa. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake where he served as a Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, Finance committee member and Catechist. As a dedicated volunteer, Bob served as a little league coach and Webelos Scout leader in earlier years. He was a compassionate man involved as a short term shelter parent through Community Human Services and was the foster father of the late Kathleen Welch Walker. Bob was the beloved husband of Margaret E. Peggy (Embler) Grot; dedicated father of David (Nicole) Grot of Cumming, GA, Brian Grot of San Diego, CA, Kevin (Heather) Grot of Encinitas, CA and Elizabeth Grot of Saratoga Springs; cherished grandfather of Jordan, Jenna, Ava, Ryah and Logan; caring brother of Richard (Ena) Grot of Huntersville, NC, John (Linda) Grot of Midland, GA, Mary (Chuck) Dunn of Morgan Hill, CA, Arnold (Nancy) Grot of Glastonbury, CT and the late Cynthia Grot. Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 30th at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, December 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church or the Schenectady Inner City Ministry, 1068 Park Ave., Schenectady, NY 12308. Uncle Bob was one of the kindest, warm-hearted people I have ever known. The world could use a lot more men like him. We will miss you dearly. Aunt Peggy and cousins David, Brian, Kevin and Liz, we send our love to you during this time, as we celebrate Uncle Bob's full life.

Dear Peggy and Family,
There are no words to express our sadness at the news of Bob's death. He was a wonderful, gentle and kind man. Andrew loved him as his Scout Leader and you as the Den Mom...both so patient with rambunctious boys.
I remember his wonderful laugh and smile.

He was one of the greatest people I have ever known! Honest, hard working, loving and caring for others and his family. He is now with God and his parents and Heaven is a better place because he is there.
