In remembrance of Uncle Bob on the first anniversary of his passing I light this candle thinking of him. I miss talking to you about golf, what my cousins are up to, politics, and career advice. Nancy introduced us to Bob when they were married, but we feel like we have known him all of our lives. Bob was a strong man with a gentle spirit... just the type of friend one would want. He loved his God and he loved people, and he most certainly touched our lives in a special way.

I am a high school classmate of Bob's. In high school he was a hard worker, a great basketball player because he gave 100%.
Senior year he was voted the most handsome, the most popular and the most athletic. A group of us were fortunate to have lunch with him August 6th when he was in Cedar Rapids to visit his brother. Yesterday I went to mass online - St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans - Fr. Wm Maestri - who ended his homily saying "This is your time to return to the Lord's house. You know why? Because Heaven needs to celebrate this morning. The angels need to rejoice. And God will meet you, not with accusation, condemnation, disapproval - but with a warm embrace - welcoming you home from a foreign land. And Heaven will celebrate; the angels will rejoice." Enjoy it, Schoeb. We'll all join you when God has our party prepared.

Bob lived a full life in his 77-plus years but still, left us too early - I know for him, and for us. He had a zest for life and so much more he wanted to do - Mount Mercy University, the Automotive Aftermarket Foundation, or his multiple business ventures and board positions - and of course, and maybe most importantly, the time he looked forward to spending with his grandchildren whom he adored. Bob touched so many lives. He was great man, a true friend, and a role model for many, including me. I will truly miss him.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this today. I worked with and for Bob at Wards thru all the ups and downs. Bob was the rock in a place that was filled with mayhem. The world is not a better place today because of his loss, but the world is a better place because Bob was here. He was loved by all with his gruff exterior but his gentle heart. I loved that guy.

The voice, the laugh, his boundless enthusiasm and wit. A mentor to many. The voice may be stilled, but his spirit lives on in all of us.
