Alberta Whiteside Turner

SYLACAUGA - Alberta Whiteside Turner, 95, of Sylacauga, passed away March 20, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Alexander Turner, and daughter Katherine Turner Parker (Bob). She is survived by her son, Phillip Alexander Turner (Toni), daughter Carol T. Lanthrip (Louie), daughter Belle T. Hamiter (Johnny), daughter Emily T. Richardson (Tommy), four grandsons, four granddaughters, and four great grandchildren, as well as her caregivers Catherine Morris, Faye Britton, Barbara Catching, Doris Cooper, Annette Griffin, Jennifer Adams, Janet Hollingsworth, and many others who cared for her at Spring Terrace Assisted Living.
She was born October 11, 1919, in Anniston and attended Southwestern College in Memphis and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she was elected to Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. She married in 1941 and lived in Alexander City until 1945, when she moved permanently with her family to Sylacauga.
She served the First Presbyterian Church Sylacauga in many capacities: teaching young people and adults, serving in the Women of the Church, and as the first female ruling elder in her presbytery. She was a great reader of history, biography, and theology. She was an accomplished artist, gardener, and seamstress as well as a lover of birds and nature.

Graveside service will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 2PM at Evergreen Cemetery
Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the services.
