Rock on Brother! The best Devo Drummer.
June 28, 2013
To Alan and the Myers family,

As a music fan, artist, and lifelong Devo fan, my deepest condolences. You have lost what seems to be a great son and father. Of all the members of Devo, Alan earned my greatest degree of personal respect. He had a keen and deep commitment to excellence in his craft and the curiosity and desire to experiment with it. When Devo began substituting computer drums for Alan's drumming and using basic beats instead of more complex rhytms, Alan displayed a commendable degree of personal and artistic integrity by leaving. By being a regular guy devoting his time toward raising his daughter and studying philosopy while avoiding fame, he showed humility and intelligence. The experimental music he played in Skyline Electric, Swahili Blonde, and Jean-Paul Yamomoto was more interesting than most of the music Devo had put out since 1983, I admist as a Devo fan. Alan was too underrated. It was his drumming that added the structure and propulsive force to Devo's music. Without him, there would not have been the first three albums. Whip It, their greatest hit, consisted primarily of Alan's musclework and passion. Alan should should be seen as an example of how to be an great artist and a great person.
