I knew Joe for only a couple of years and it was an honour and a privilege to have known such a legend. Joe was never without a smile and always took time to stop and talk. I always enjoyed hearing his stories and when I heard of his passing I was devastated. Joe will be remembered by many and will always be in our hearts. We have lost a true gentleman.

I knew Joe in the 1970s. He was much more than a great footballer, Messi and Jimmy Greaves were the only players to come near him, but a great friend and generous benefactor to countless boys whom he encouraged to develop their skills. Since knowing him made me a better person and helped me in my legal career. He is one of the few who it can truly be said that we will never know the like of him again. If he had not been injured cruelly he would have become one of the all time greats in any time. That he achieved so much is testament to his charcter, generosity and skill. Let us rejoice in the memory of one of the greatest footballers ever and any place. Let us rejoice in his friendship and generous spirit. I never hear him rancour about not being one of the Lisbon Lions which he would undoubtedly have been except for injury. How noble to not regret being one of a small select group to win the European Cup when all were Glaswegians to a man (Lennox was born within 30 miles of Parkhead) which stands as the greatest achievement in football forever.

3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
